Silver Comet Trail


I went riding on the Silver Comet Trail yesterday. The trail is a "Rails to Trails" trail that runs from Smyrna, GA to the Georgia/Alabama border. At the border it changes its name to the Chief Laguna Trail, and continues on to Birmingham, AL (I didn't ride to Birmingham).

I rode from Smyrna to Hiram and back, about 30 miles (it felt like it was 20 miles too long). It had been about 20 days since I've been on my bike, and I only ran twice since the last time I was on my bike. It is amazing how fast your fitness drops (this is why I'm not expecting a drop in weight tomorrow).

The ride started out good. The Silver Comet is relatively flat, and I was able to keep my Heart Rate below 135bpm for the trip to Hiram. On the way back was anouther story; I couldn't seem to keep my HR below 135bpm. I went slower and slower, used lower and lower gears, but I just couldn't keep my HR lower than 135bpm. At around mile 23, I stopped trying. I put the bike in a higher gear, and hammered my way home (as much as I can hammer). By the time I got to my car, I was spent.

Weigh-In Wednesday


I'm not sure how this works. I don't have the whole losing weight thing down yet. I dropped two more pounds since last week, and I didn't do anything. I mean it, up until yesterday (I ran yesterday) I didn't do anything. My inactivity was partly do to alot of rain, but mostly due to laziness.

Hell, I'll take what I can get. 2lbs is 2lbs.

Weigh-In Wednesday


I'm not sure how this happened. Yes, I rode 30+ miles last Wednesday, ran 5+ miles Thursday, and hiked 5+ mile Sunday; but I also ate two boxes of girl scout cookies as meals this week.

Weigh-In Wednesday


And I step backwards.

I can't say I didn't see this coming. As I have stated before, my philosophy on weight lose is "Don't diet, exercise". This usually works, but if you don't exercise, or you keep going to buffets, it will not work.

I have not exercised since last Wednesday, when I ran the Battlefield. Thursday, Friday and Saturday it rained. Sunday it snowed, and Monday the roads were still icee. Yesterday I went to lunch with a friend, and fell asleep on my couch when I got home. With this much activity I sure as hell wasn't burning any calories.

Last week was also my birthday week. That means I ate alot more than I usually do (alot more than I do now, not alot more than I did a year ago (you don't become this fat by not eating alot)).

One of my big problems with exercising after work will be alleviated this weekend. This weekend is daylight savings time. I will now have a whole extra hour the run or ride the bike. It makes it easier to get a work-out in, even if you left work late. I hope this will mean I am back on track by next week.
